Broward County Archaeologist Matthew Defelice confirmed that preliminary archaeological testing within Smoker Park in the early nineties uncovered a Seminole Indian artifact per the official testing report.  However, Mr. Defelice noted that the full report is not public in an effort to prevent "looting" of additional artifacts.

Both he and Seminole Indian Tribe Archaeologist and Historian Will Steele believe that the park may very likely hold additional artifacts, especially because of its close proximity to the former Stranahan Trading Post on the north side of the New River.
